About the Radiation Control Program

Nevada Revised Statutes Chapter 459 (NRS 459) designates the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health as the state radiation control agency. The Radiation Control Program is the office through which the Division accomplishes the statutory mandate for NRS 459. NRS 459 further mandates the agency to develop programs to evaluate and respond to hazards from sources of ionizing radiation. Examples of these radiation sources include machine-made radiation such as Radiation Producing Machines (including Mammography) and Radioactive Materials used in medicine, research and industry.
The Radiation Control Program is the office through which the Division accomplishes the statutory mandate for NRS Chapter 457 (NRS 457). NRS 457 mandates the agency to develop a program for certification and inspection of all mammography facilities and mammographers.
The Radiation Control Program is the office through which the Division accomplishes the statutory mandate for NRS Chapter 653 (NRS 653). NRS 653 mandates the agency to develop a program license person who engage in radiation therapy or radiologic imaging.
