HL7 Interfacing - Grants

The Nevada State Immunization Program (NSIP) is mainly responsible for administering the Nevada Immunization and Vaccine for Children Grant, which is a non-competitive grant awarded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to 64 state, local and territorial immunization programs. This cooperative agreement between the CDC and the NSIP is awarded over a five-year project period; the current project period spans 2013-2017. The Nevada Immunization and Vaccine for Children Grant is the sole funding source that allows the NSIP to administer the Nevada Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program and operate NV WebIZ, the statewide immunization information system (SIIS). The NSIP also pursues other immunization funding opportunities and over the past four years has successfully applied for and been awarded nine (9) Prevention and Public Health Fund projects. The topics for these temporary, special projects include: billing for immunization services provided by public health clinics; centralized adolescent immunization reminder/recalls; improving Hepatitis B immunization for at-risk adult populations; implementing IIS-EHR HL7 interfaces with Nevada’s immunizing providers; improving vaccine storage and handling at the provider level; implementing online ordering of public vaccine through the SIIS; improving HPV vaccination for Nevada’s adolescents; and implementing a sustainable infrastructure to support school-located vaccination clinics
