Worksite Wellness - Community Resources

What is Worksite Wellness?

Health is no longer simply the absence of disease. Today, one of the core components contributing to health is the idea of wellness. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), overall wellness embodies physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being. Further, positive well-being correlates with improved perceived health, more social connectedness, reduced risk of physical or mental illnesses, and healthy behaviors–all contributing to productivity and longevity.

The Nevada Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) recognizes employees spend nearly 36% of their total waking hours at work. While at work, many employees develop unhealthy habits surrounding food choices, substance use, and physical inactivity, ultimately decreasing their wellness by increasing their risk of chronic physical and mental illnesses. Adopting comprehensive wellness policies and programs benefits employers in numerous ways.
