State Opioid Response (SOR)

What is SOR?

The State Opioid Response grant program is a national award provided by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration, aiming to address the opioid crisis by providing funding to states enhance prevention, treatment and recovery efforts related to Opioid and Stimulant Use Disorder.

 

SAMHSA launched the SOR grant program in response to the growing opioid epidemic, which has had devastating effects on communities across the United States. The program seeks to expand access to evidence-based treatment, improve the quality of care for individuals with OUD, and enhance efforts to prevent opioid misuse and overdose.

What does SOR do for Nevada?

To save the lives of those affected by Opioid Use Disorder and prevent overdoses across the Silver State, SOR helps to fund a wide range of activities that encourage prevention, treatment and recovery efforts across Nevada. Part of these efforts include

 

  • Expanding access to Naloxone, also known by the brand name Narcan, which can reverse opioid overdoses
  • Increasing the use of evidence-based medications which help to treat Opioid Use Disorder
  • Providing treatment and support for pregnant and postpartum individuals
  • Expanding harm reduction programs and services, including syringe services programs, to reduce the spread of infectious diseases and decrease overdose deaths
