The Bureau of Behavioral Health, Wellness, and Prevention serves as both the Single State Agency for Substance Use and the Single State Mental Health Authority for the Division of Public and Behavioral Health. It is home to numerous substance use programs and community health programs that help provide key behavioral health services for Nevadans.

Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Strategic Plan 2023-2027
Throughout the development of this strategic plan, many public health professionals working in the field of chronic disease across the state volunteered their expertise, experience, and leadership to provide meaningful insight regarding the needs of the community and needs of public health partners in order to decrease the burden of chronic disease in Nevada. The Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (CDPHP) Section is grateful to these partners for providing insight and recommendations to improve our work, and intends to honor that insight by focusing efforts around the goals outlined in this plan. Through robust and meaningful partnership, the professionals at Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion are dedicated to implementing meaningful prevention programs for all Nevadans. This plan is in full alignment with the CDPHP mission: to maximize the health of Nevadans by improving policy, systems, and environment that influence quality of life. 2023 Health Disparity Report
The Division of Public and Behavioral Health actively pursues grants available from the Federal Government and other sources, specifically designed to address disparities in healthcare and health outcomes based on race, color, ancestry, national origin, disability, familial status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, immigration status, primary language, or income level. In notable achievement, the State of Nevada’s Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (CDPHP) Section, housed within the Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH), secured a substantial $32 million grant through the OT21-2103: National Initiative to Address COVID-19 Health Disparities Among Populations at High-Risk and Underserved, Including Racial and Ethnic Minority Populations and Rural Communities. The primary objective of this funding initiative is to address COVID-19-related health disparities and promote health equity by enhancing the capacity and services of state, local, US territorial, and freely associated state health departments. These grant funds aim to diminish COVID-19 disparities, particularly impacting high-risk and underserved populations, such as racial and ethnic minorities and rural communities spread across Nevada. The funding and period of performance is two (2) years, from June 1, 2021, to May 31, 2023. CDPHP was granted a No Cost Extension, which extended the project date until May 31, 2024. Employing the Logic Model for OT21-2103, provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as a guiding resource, CDPHP adeptly guided program development and implementation of the project. Disparity reduction in health outcomes is routinely embedded in categorical funding across the Division.

COVID-19 Information
At DPBH Clinical Services the safety and well-being of our staff and patients, is always our priority and we recognize the important role we play in providing quality care and ensuring everyone’s safety. We are actively monitoring the COVID-19 situation and taking steps to keep our patients and staff safe. As such, we wanted to share with you some steps we are taking:
Aligning with public health authorities
- We have created a team dedicated to our response to this pandemic. They closely follow the recommendations from CDC, monitoring our response and ensuring that these responses are in alignment with CDC recommendations.
Protecting our staff and patients
- We have taken steps to limit exposure to the virus by screening all new patients for admission to our facility, following CDC guidelines, before being accepted for transfer. This decision complies with new federal and state directives to limit exposure of people in in-patient psychiatric facilities to COVID-19.
- Visitation hours have changed, please reach out to individual agencies for details.
- We have increased sanitation of high traffic and patient care areas, utilizing disinfectants recommended by CDC.
- Upon entering our buildings staff will be asked specific questions about their current healthcare status including signs and symptoms of any upper respiratory conditions. In addition, we have directed all staff to not report to work if they have symptoms.
- We have opened up to visitors and events with some limitations.
- Our inpatient services are open and fully operational including our admissions department.
- Our outpatient services are open but modified hours.

Assisting and supporting our staff
- We are in continuous communication with our staff, reminding them about the importance of good hygiene, providing them with health education and support whenever needed.
- We are monitoring and implementing our hand hygiene protocol.
- We have provided telecommuting options to our non-essential staff in order to limit the possibility of exposure.
- Our hospitals and clinics remain committed to serving our community by ensuring a safe environment for everyone in accordance with CDC guidelines. We thank you for your trust and understanding at this time.

Immunization Overview
The Nevada State Immunization Program (NSIP) partners with Nevada’s local health departments, medical clinics, hospitals, schools/child care centers, and other organizations to facilitate vaccine distribution and support the use of NV WebIZ, the statewide immunization information system (IIS). NSIP’s mission is to be a trusted immunization resource and inspire a culture embracing immunization to protect the public from vaccine preventable diseases.

CDC is requesting notification from clinicians or state public health authorities about children less than 10 years of age with elevated aspartate aminotransferase (ALT) (greater than 500 U/L) who have an unknown etiology for their hepatitis (with or without any adenovirus testing results, independent of the results) since Oct. 1, 2021.
Please notify your local public health agency and email CDC at: ncirddvdgast@cdc.gov to notify of any cases meeting the above criteria or with any related questions. Please include dpbhepi@health.nv.gov in your communication with CDC.
