Emergency Department Pediatric Readiness Initiative

The National Pediatric Readiness Project (NPRP) is a nationwide initiative designed to ensure every emergency department is prepared to care for infants, children, and adolescents. Led by the Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Program in partnership with national clinical organizations, the NPRP provides hospitals with a standardized assessment that measures alignment with evidence‑based guidelines for pediatric emergency care.

The NPRP evaluates key components such as staffing, training, equipment, policies, and quality‑improvement processes. Research shows that higher pediatric readiness is directly linked to improved outcomes and reduced mortality for critically ill and injured children. By participating in the NPRP assessment, hospitals gain valuable insight into their strengths and opportunities for improvement, helping them deliver safer, more effective care for Nevada’s youngest patients.

The Nevada EMS for Children Program has identified four levels for the Nevada Pediatric Emergency and Readiness Level Initiative. – NV PEARL.
